He is philosophical and poetic. He is keenly aware of his role in his family and society - as a son and an artist, and his art consistently conveys his personal ruminations on relationships ranging from his own self-concept to the complicated interplay of international political and pop cultural figures. Nguyen combines traditional materials with contemporary content creating works that are earnestly Vietnamese with out being kitsch. Nguyen is acutely aware of and inspired by the constantly changing fabric of Vietnamese society as it races from a closed Socialist state to join the free market economy. Ngueyn's works on paper are graceful mystical narratives.
